Chu Cheng 褚澄 (d. 483), courtesy name Yandao 彥道, was a high official and famous physician of the Liu-Song period 劉宋 (420-479). He was a younger brother of Chu Yuan 褚淵 (435-482) and was married to Princess Lujiang 廬江公主, a daughter of Emperor Wen 宋文帝 (r. 424-453). His daughter was Princess Donghun 東昏皇后, married to Emperor Xiao Baojuan 蕭寶卷 (r. 498-501). He received the title of Commandant-escort (fuma duwei 駙馬都尉). Under the Southern Qi dynasty 南齊 (479-502), he served as governor (taishou 太守) of the commandery of Wujun 吳郡, Left Minister of Revenue (zuo min shangshu 左民尚書) and General of the Right Army (youjun jiangjun 右軍將軍). He was posthumously awarded the honorific title of Grand Master of the Palace with Golden Seal and Purple Ribbon (jinzi guanglu dafu 金紫光祿大夫).
Chu Cheng was an expert in medical prescriptions and proficient in the art of medicine. Regardless of whether the patient was wealthy or impoverished, Chu Cheng would first assess the patient's mental state, physical condition, hometown, customs, environmental factors, and the strength of their qi 氣 and blood before issuing a prescription. Consequently, his treatments were highly effective. His book Zayaofang 雜藥方 is preserved completely, but his Chushi yishu 褚氏遺書 only survives in fragments.
