Nov 6, 2012 © Ulrich Theobald

Xi Qi 郤乞 was a nobleman from the house of Xi 郤 in the state of Jin 晉 during the Spring and Autumn period 春秋 (770-5th cent. BCE).

He served Duke Hui 晉惠公 (r. 651-637) after the lost battle of Hanyuan 韓原 (near modern Hejin 河津, Shanxi) against Qin 秦. Duke Hui was captured and sent out Xi Qi to entrust Yin Yisheng 陰飴甥 with the government of Jin in his absence. Yin Yisheng in turn ordered Xi Qi redistribute ducal land to the masses (yuantian 轅田, also written 爰田), and to recruit village militia (zhoubing 州兵).
