Huang Zhong 黃忠 (d. 220), courtesy name Hansheng 漢升, was a general of Liu Bei 劉備 (161-222) in the very late decades of the Eastern Han period 東漢 (25-220 CE).
He came from Nanyang 南陽 (modern Nanyang, Henan) and was in the beginning Leader of the court gentlemen (zhonglangjiang 中郎將) under Liu Bao 劉表 (142-208). When the mighty warlord Cao Cao 曹操 (155-220) conquered Jingzhou 荊州 he was made acting assistant general (jiaxing pi jiangjun 假行裨將軍), but was soon convinced that Liu Bei was the right man to be supported. When Liu Bei conquered the Sichuan Basin Huang Zhong was made General challenging the barbarians (taolu jiangjun 討虜將軍).
In 219 he secured the region of Hanzhong 漢中 against Xiahou Yuan 夏侯淵 (d. 219), a general of Cao Cao, who controlled the north. For this victory Huang Zhong was rewarded with the title of General Conquering the West (zhengxi jiangjun 征西將軍), and when Liu Bei adopted the title of King of Hanzhong, was given the title General of the Rear (hou jiangjun 後將軍) and was invested as Marquis within the Pass (guanneihou 關內侯).
His posthumous title is Marquis Gang 剛侯.
