Xing Yong 邢顒

Xing Yong 邢顒 (died 223 CE), courtesy name Zi'ang 子昂, was a high official of the warlord Cao Cao 曹操 during the late Eastern Han period 東漢 (25-220 CE).

He came from Mo 鄚 in the commandery of Hejian 河間 (today's Renqiu 任丘, Hebei), where he was educated and instructed by Tian Chou 田疇. When Cao Cao conquered the region he was entrusted with the aministration of the province of Jizhou 冀州. He later rose the ladder of official career as administrator of official works (sikong yuan 司空掾).

As magistrate (ling 令) of Xingtang 行唐, he advocated the promotion of agriculture and a more systematic administration. Xing also suggested to make Cao Cao's oldest son heir apparent of his kingdom of Wei 魏. He was then made administrator of the household of Cao's second-oldest son Cao Zhi 曹植, yet the prince was not very happy about his strict following of ritual guidelines.

Cao Cao therefore entrusted him with an army command of the Counsellor-in-chief, then with the administration of the Eastern Section of the Chancellery (dongcao yuan 東曹掾), and then made him Senior Mentor of the Heir Apparent (taizi taifu 太子太傅). When the empire of Wei was founded, Xing Yong was appointed Vice Director of the Imperial Secretariat (shangshu puye 尚書仆射), then metropolitan commandant (sili xiaowei 司隸校尉), and finally Chamberlain for Ceremonials (taichang 太常). He was also bestowed the title of a Marquis within the Passes (guannei hou 關内侯).
