Mingshanzang 名山藏 "Storehouse of Mt. Mingshan" is a privately written history of the early and high Ming period 明, compiled in a biographical style (jizhuanti 紀傳體). The author is He Qiaoyuan 何喬遠 (1558-1632), courtesy name Chixiao 樨孝, style Feiwo 匪莪, Yinju Jingshan 隱居鏡山 or Jingshan Xiansheng 鏡山先生.
The biographies and treatises of the Mingshanzang are arranged in 37 different typological categories (ji 記). The book was compiled in a time when the Ming dynasty experienced her "Indian summer" and was therefore only conceptualized as an overview for the general reader interested in the dynasty and the people shaping her.
The Mingshanzang was printed in 1640 with a length of 106 juan "scrolls". A facsimile has been published in 1993 by the Beijing daxue press 北京大學出版社.
Zhou Huaqi 齊周華 (1698-1767), courtesy name Qiruo 漆若, style Jushan 巨山, compiled a collection meant to be a supplement to He's book and called "copy" Mingshanzang fuben 名山藏副本 or "first collection of the copy" Mingshanzang fuben chuji 名山藏副本初集. It is a kind of local gazetteer of "famous mountains" (ming shan) and is not related to He Qiaoyuan's history book.
