Yuanshi jishi benmo 元史紀事本末

Yuanshi jishi benmo 元史紀事本末 "Historical events of the Yuan period in their entirety" is a history of the Yuan period 元 (1279-1368) written in the style of "historical events in their entirety" (jishi benmo 紀事本末). It was compiled by the late Ming-period 明 (1368-1644) historian Chen Bangzhan 陳邦瞻 (d. 1623). The 27 chapters-long book was finished in 1606 and thought as a sequel to the Songshi jishi benmo 宋史紀事本末, also written by Chen Bangzhan.

The chapter on the law code (Falü zhi ding 律令之定) was added later by Zhang Maoxun 臧懋循 (1550-1620). Chen avoided to use the official dynastic history of the Yuan period, Yuanshi 元史, and made no use of Shang Lu's 商輅 (1414-1486) Xu (Song-Yuan) zizhi tongjian gangmu 續宋元資治通鑑綱目. The book is arranged in titled chapters and thus provides an ideal access to specific topics of the history of the Yuan period. The weakness of the book lies in Chen's not going into textual critique, and the statements therefore have to be used with care. The common version is the print by the Zhonghua shuju press 中華書局 from 1929.
