Guanyuan caomu shi 灌園草木識

Guanyuan caomu shi 灌園草木識 is a book on gardening written during the very late Ming period 明 (1368-1644) by Chen Zhengxue 陳正學, courtesy name Zhenxuan 貞鉉, from Dongye 東冶 (today part of Fuzhou 福州, Fujian). He gained experience in gardening on his estate in Zhangzhou 漳州. The preface of the book is dated 1634.

In his book of 6 juan length, he describes the appearance, features and care for 130 types of flowers, 48 types of fruit trees, 25 kinds of other trees and bamboos, 36 species of medical herbs, and 25 kinds of vegetables. The last fascicles contain miscellaneous statements and quotes from older literature. The oldest printed version of the book is called Caomushi 草木識. It is reproduced in the series Xuxiu siku quanshu 續修四庫全書.
