Haiyu huayuan lüe 海虞畫苑略 is a collection of biographies of Qing-period 清 (1644-1911) painters compiled by Yu Yi 魚翼, courtesy name Zhennan 振南 (1675-c. 1745), from Changshu 常熟, Jiangsu. Haiyu 海虞 was an ancient name of Changshu.
The book of 1 juan, with a supplementary fascicle, is a descriptive catalogue of Yu's collection of paintings from the Yuan period 元 (1279-1368) on. Most of the artworks were created by local people, but the book also includes paintings from other regions of China, as well as works by clerics and women. In addition to the notes on paintings and ratings of the artistic quality, Yu adds brief biographies of the 408 artists and inserts the artists into artistic lineages of master-disciple relations.
There are two imitations of Yu Yi's catalogue, namely Shao Songnian's 邵松年 (jinshi degree 1883) Yushan huazhi bubian 虞山畫志補編, and Pang Shilong's 龐士龍 (1899-1987) Changshu shuhuajia huizhuan 常熟書畫家彙傳.
