Lianshui huazheng lu 練水畫徵錄 "Documented paintings from Lianshui Reservoir" is a book on landscape painting written during the Qing period 清 (1644-1911) by Cheng Tinglu 程庭鷺 (1796-1858), original name Zhenlu 振鷺, courtesy name Yunzhen 蘊真, Wenchu 問初 or Xubo 序伯, style Lüqing 綠卿 or Hengxiang 蘅鄉, Gongzhidao 公之翿, Hongheng Sheng 紅蘅生, Yinxiang'an Zhu 因香庵主, Wangmu Xueren 忘牧學人, Huaitanzi 懷{忄曇}子, Hecha Shanren 鶴槎山民 or Meng'an 夢庵, from Jiading 嘉定 (part of present-day Shanghai). He also wrote the books Yitianyangzhai ji 以恬養智齋集, Hongheng ci 紅蘅詞, Ruo'an huazhu 篛庵畫麈, Duoxialu 多暇錄, Xiaosongyuange zazhu 小松圓閣雜著 and Xiaosongyuange yincun 小松圓閣印存.

The book of 4 juan length, completed in 1849, documents the lives and artistic activities of painters from Jiading. In the preface, Qian Du 錢杜 (1764-1845) remarks that the book was explicitly intended to supplement gaps in the local gazetteer (yizhi 邑志), while also referencing various existing books on painting. It describes the lives and works of painters from the Song 宋 (960-1279) to the Qing period, arranged into the four categories of masters, female artists (guixiu 閨秀), clerics (fangwai 方外), and wandering artists (liuyu 流寓). The material in this work is sourced from publications such as Nanxiang zhi 南翔志, Wuzhong renwu zhi 吳中人物志, Qinghe shuhua fang 清河書畫舫, and Zhuangguanlu 壯觀錄. While the book includes concise notes and some supplementary accounts of the recorded artists' poetry, calligraphy, and painting, it provides little in terms of critical analysis, although there is occasional textual verification.

In addition to its main four volumes, the book also features several supplementary sections, namely a sequel catalogue (Xumu 續目), Supplementary Records (Bulu 補錄), an Appendix (Fulu 附錄), and Additional Records (Yulu 餘錄). This expanded compilation further enhances the work as a valuable resource for regional art history, particularly in tracing the artistic networks and output of Jiading and its surroundings. Let me know if you would prefer this content organised as a reference table or in an annotated version.

In 1937, Huang Shizuo 黄世祚, the grandnephew of the compiler Cheng Tinglu, conducted a critical collation and supplement of the book, resulting in the revised edition titled Lianshui huazheng lu jiaobu 練水畫徵錄校補. This expanded and carefully verified edition by Huang Shizuo provides further corrections and additions to Cheng Tinglu's original work, reinforcing its position as a comprehensive regional record of painters from Jiading and its environs.
