Shuhua jianying 書畫鑒影 is a book on painting and calligraphy written during the late Qing period 清 (1644-1911) by Li Zuoxian 李佐賢 (1807-1876), courtesy name Zhongmin 仲敏, style Zhupeng 竹朋.
The book of 20 juan length was finished in 1835 and reprinted in 1871. It describes and rates the calligraphies and paintings of Li's private collection and such he had the chance to admire personally. The artworks are arranged chronologically, reaching from the Jin 晉 (265-420) to the high Qing period. Moreover, he discerns three different types of paintings, namely scrolls (juan 卷), albums (ce 冊), and mounted scrolls (zhou 軸). The last category also includes paintings on screens (pingfu 屏幅) and horizontal scrolls (hengzhen 橫幀). While most of the older artworks are also described in other books, such as those of the Ming 明 (1368-1644) and Qing periods, are of greater interest. Li classified them into three categories of quality (pin 品).
