Yang shancan chengfa 養山蠶成法

Yang shancan chengfa 養山蠶成法 is a book on silk production from the cocoons of the wild silk moth (Antheraea pernyi) written in 1744 by the Ka'erjishan 喀爾吉善 (d. 1757), who was at the time governor (xunfu 巡撫) of Shandong. The book was written on imperial order, and the author toured several provinces to learn more about the trade. Its text is preserved in the local gazetteer Lianzhou fu zhi 廉州府志 from the Daoguang reign-period 道光 (1821-1850). It briefly discusses the method of silkworm rearing during spring and until autumn, when the cocoons are prepared for the production of yarns. This text is the earliest surviving report on wild silkworms.
