Beichuang zhiguo lu 北窗炙輠錄 "Records of the [inexhaustible] grease vessel by the north window" is a collection of stories written during the Song period 宋 (960-1279) by Shi Decao 施德操 (fl. 1131.), from Yanguan 鹽官 (today's Haining 海寧, Zhejiang), was unable to pursue an official career due to illness. Instead, he devoted himself diligently to study. Together with fellow townsmen Yang Xuan 楊璇 and Zhang Jiucheng 張九成, he enjoyed a certain reputation in his time, and scholars referred to him as Master Chizheng 持正先生 "Upright Master". His learning followed the tradition of the Luo River School 洛學 of Neo-Confucianism. He upheld the teachings of Mengzi 孟子 and authored the book Mengzi fati 孟子發題.
The term zhiguo 炙輠 is explained in Liu Xiang's 劉向 (79-8 or 77-6 BCE) book Bielu 別錄 as follows: The character guo 輠 is used in place of guo 過, which, among other meanings, denotes a vessel on a carriage used to hold grease. It has the advantage that even whe The book mostly documents the eminent virtues of respected seniors of the time, as well as the integrity, loyalty, and conduct of worthy and upright individuals, materials that later generations may use as models. It also occasionally includes trivial anecdotes and miscellaneous discussions. The text is included in the series Siku quanshu 四庫全書, Qijinzhai congshu 奇晉齋叢書, Xuehai leibian 學海類編, Duhuazhai congshu 讀畫齋叢書 and Congshu jicheng chubian 叢書集成初編.
