Xiyongxuan congshu 喜咏軒叢書

Xiyongxuan congshu 喜咏軒叢書 is a series of collectanea (congshu 叢書) compiled by Xiang Xiang 陶湘 (1871–1940) and published between 1926 and 1931.

Tao Xiang, courtesy name Lanquan 蘭泉, style Sheyuan 涉園, from Wujin 武進, Jiangsu, held the title of expectant circuit intendant (houbu daoyuan 候補道員), but he had to move to Tianjin 天津 after the 1911 Revolution. During the presidency of Yuan Shikai 袁世凱 (1859-1916), he was Director of the Shatian Factory 沙田局總辦. Later on, Tao worked as a manager of silk factories in various places, as well as director of the northern branch of the Beijing-Hankou Railway Company, and also as director of the Beijing Branch of the Bank of Communications (Jiaotong Yinhang 交通銀行). In 1929, he was, on the recommendation of Fu Zengxiang 傅增湘 (1872-1949), appointed special member of the Palace Museum (Gugong Bowuyuan zhuamen weiyuan 故宮博物院專門委員.

As the owner of a large library of precious and rare books, Tao compiled the catalogues Wujin Sheyuan Taoshi jiancang Mingban shumu 武進涉園陶氏鑒藏明版書目 and Gugong dianben shuku xiancun mu 故宮殿本書庫現存目. Tao also edited the old series Baichuan xuehai 百川學海 from the Song period 宋 (960-1279) and created his own series Xiyongxuan congshu, Sheyuan suo cang Songban shuying 涉園所藏宋版書影 and Taoshi shumu congkan 陶氏書目叢刊.

Tao earned also merits for his commented edition of the ancient book on construction, Yingzao fashi 營造法式 which was produced with the help of Fu Zengxiang, Luo Zhenyu 羅振玉 (1866-1940), Kan Duo 闞鐸 (1875-1934) and Tao Zhu 陶洙 (1878-1961).
