Henghuang xinlun 珩璜新論

Henghuang xinlun 珩璜新論 "New discourses of jade pendants", also called Henghuanglun 珩璜論, Kongshi zashuo 孔氏雜說 "Miscellaneous explanation of Master Kong" or shortly Zashuo 雜說, is a "brush-notes"-style book (biji 筆記) written during the Northern Song period 北宋 (960-1126) by Kong Pingzhong 孔平仲 (1044-1111), courtesy name Yifu 毅父. Kong also wrote the books Kongshi tanyuan 孔氏談苑 and Xu shishuo 續世說.

The postface (ba 跋) is dated 1180. Song-period sources mention both titles of the book, which proves that it was known under several titles from the beginning, but it seems that the original name was Kongshi zashuo and only later received the name Henghuang xinlun, which is derived from a sentence in the sub-Classic Da Dai Liji 大戴禮, where it is said that the jade pieces (heng 珩) and rings (huang 璜) are stringed up and used as pendants of a girdle.

The book quotes from many ancient writings to prove the correctness of their statements, or to criticize them.

The Henghuang xinlun is to be found in the series Siku quanshu 四庫全書, Shuofu 說郛 (Wanwei Shantang 宛委山堂 edition), Mohai jinhu 墨海金壺 (shortened), Zhucong bielu 珠叢別錄 (shortened), Songren xiaoshuo 宋人小說 (all with the title Henghuang xinlun and a length of 1 juan), Xuehai leibian 學海類編, Congshu jicheng chubian 叢書集成初編 (Henghuang xinlun, 4 juan), Gujin shuohai 古今說海, Gezhi congshu 格致叢書, Tang-Song congshu 唐宋叢書, Shuoku 說庫 (under the title Kongshi zashuo, in different selections and a length of 1 juan), and Baoyantang miji 寶顏堂秘笈 (Kongshi zashuo, 4 juan, but somewhat shortened).
