Yuzhao xinzhi 玉照新志 "New tales of the Jade Mirror [Studio]" is a collection of stories compiled during the Song period 宋 (960-1279) by Wang Mingqing 王明清 (c. 1127-c. 1201). He also wrote the books Huichenlu 揮麈錄 and Touxialu 投轄錄.
The book of 6 juan was composed as a supplement to the Huichenlu. In his preface, he states that he obtained a "jade mirror" (yuzhao 玉照) from Bao Zizheng 鮑子正 of Yongjia 永嘉, and later also acquired a calligraphic rendering of the two characters yu and zhao written by the famous calligrapher Mi Fu 米芾 (1051-1107). He then displayed it in his studio, withdrew from society, shut his doors, and reflected on past anecdotes, compiling them into a book.
The contents mostly concern tales of the supernatural and trivial matters, though they also occasionally touch upon past events from both court and common circles, as well as lesser-known writings by earlier authors. The recorded pieces tend to be relatively long, and many recount strange, curious, or humorous incidents. Among them, the accounts of past events and the lost works of earlier writers largely serve to supplement omissions in the Huichenlu.
The text appears in the series Siku quanshu 四庫全書, Baoyantang miji 寶顏堂秘笈, and Shuofu 說郛, in a 4-juan version in the Tang-Song congshu 唐宋叢說, Gujin shuobu congshu 古今說部叢書, and Shuoku 說庫, and in a 5-juan arrangement in the Xuejin taoyuan 學津討原, Hanfenlou ji Songren xiaoshuo 涵芬樓輯宋人小說, and Congshu jicheng chubian 叢書集成初編. In 1991, the Shanghai Guji Chubanshe 上海古籍出版社 published an annotated version in a joint edition with the Touxialu.
